The A.I.S.E. Charter for Sustainable Cleaning

Introduction

The Charter is open to all companies, whether a member or non-member of A.I.S.E., and whether manufacturing, distributing, or placing on the market soaps, detergents, maintenance products or cleaning systems.

It is relevant both to manufacturing companies placing products directly on the market and to retailers and distributors wishing to apply the Charter to private label products.

The use of the registered Charter logos is granted only to those companies having officially committed to the Charter for Sustainable Cleaning and is subject to the licensing conditions.

Manufacturers (from large multinationals to SMEs and placing products directly onto the market) join as 'Ordinary Members' and go through the Entrance Check. Through the Charter extranet, A.I.S.E. provides training modules for the companies to self-test their performance prior to the actual verification procedures.

Companies who wish to self-assess themselves should request an extranet password, by filling in the application form.

After registration, companies will be able to self-assess via the Training Areas on CSPs and KPIs. All data input in these sections will be protected and visible to the company alone.

Retailers and distributors wishing to apply the Charter to their own private label products join as 'Associate Members' and do not have to pass an Entrance Check but do have to commit to the rules of the scheme.

CHARTER VERSION 2005/CHARTER UPDATE 2010 - ACCESSIBILITY & TIMING

From 1st July 2010, A.I.S.E. is providing to the industry - initially for training only - its first proposed upgrade to the Charter for Sustainable Cleaning: 'Charter update 2010'.

The Charter update 2010 is a complete, upgraded version of the Charter version 2005, not just a set of additional measures. The overall aim is to encourage companies to migrate to the Charter update 2010 while safeguarding the rights and commitments contained in the Charter version 2005.

Ordinary or Associate Members of the Charter will have the right to upgrade to the Charter update 2010 at any time after the Charter update 2010 has been opened on 1 October 2010.

The Charter update 2010 does not put an end to the Charter version 2005. Migration elements for companies currently in the Charter have been anticipated and are available. New applicants can apply directly to join the Charter update 2010.

  • This is the anticipated schedule for the Charter update 2010 (please note that timings may be subject to change):
  • Until 31 December 2010 - the Charter version 2005 remains open for new companies who entered the training area before 1 July 2010 and who pass the entrance check and return the signed commitment letter to A.I.S.E. before 31 December 2010.
  • From 1 July 2010 - Training on the Charter update 2010 (technical aspects) available.
  • From 1 October 2010 -  Charter update 2010 final documentation, commitment letters and governance published; Companies can commit / migrate to the Charter update 2010.
  • 1 July 2011 - Charter update 2010 activated; Charter update 2010 logos may appear on the market.

Charter version 2005 will remain in operation for companies not wishing to migrate to the Charter update 2010 until all 2005 members have migrated or a decision of A.I.S.E. is made to terminate it.
